He may just be the most famous superhero of all time. You’d be hard pressed to find somebody who saw that red S in a diamond shape and didn’t know it was Superman’s symbol. He wasn’t the first ever superhero but he was the biggest selling American comic book hero until the 80’s. Many movies, cartoons, comics and video slots have been made honoring the Man of Steel.
Superman’s backstory
Superman was born on planet Krypton but was sent to earth just before the planet was destroyed. He was found by a couple of farmers who adopted him under the name ‘Clark Kent’. Naturally they noticed that Clark was not an average boy; with super strength and the ability to fly. He decided to fight crime but in a costume to hide his identity. So day to day, he is Clark Kent, journalist for the Daily Planet in the city of Metropolis. He works with his love interest, Lois Lane. As and when he is needed to save the city from supervillains or defend people from criminals he is Superman! Oh we forgot to mention he wears glasses when he’s Clark Kent so nobody recognizes him. This is a small disguise detail that keeps his identity hidden surprisingly well.
John Williams is responsible for the famous Superman Theme Song that accompanied Christopher Reeve in Superman The Movie. Iconic, catchy and highly memorable.
If you are a Brit from the 80’s and 90’s you may also remember Black Lace’s “Superman” song which was a sort of singing and dance a long tune.
